Each five week class series welcomes parents/guardians of all backgrounds to learn in a comfortable group setting. Suitable for babies 0-12 months old. Classes are typically 60 minutes with some flexibility, built to honour the needs of each parent and baby with time for discussion and connecting with other families!

About IAIM

The International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM) was founded in 1992 and the first to create a formal program for teaching parents to massage their babies. IAIM's mission is to promote nurturing touch and communication through training, education, and research so that parents, caregivers, and children are loved, valued, and respected throughout the world community. This program works all over the world, regardless of race, religion, culture, or language.

Benefits

The goal of our classes is to promote bonding between parent and child through regular nurturing touch. Nurturing touch is a form of serve and return. Children who experience constant nurturing touch may also have improved sleep, relief from pain or discomfort, and better body awareness. Parents may also experience deeper connection with their baby, increased joy and relaxation, and decreased postnatal depression. These are only a few of the many benefits that infant massage can bring parents and babies.

FAQ

  • Can you massage my baby? To reduce stress to parent and baby only the parents/guardians will massage their own baby. The instructor will demonstrate on a doll during class.

  • Can both parents/guardians attend the same class? Yes! We encourage both partners to attend. Not only will each person have a unique way of interacting with their child but this is a wonderful way to encourage the formation of a positive life-long bond between parent/guardian and child.

  • I or my baby have diverse needs, is this a problem? Not at all! All parents and babies are welcome in our massage classes.

  • I want to bring essential oil to use, is this okay? No. Essential oil is medicinal and can have many benefits but in our class settings, and for regular daily massage, IAIM recommends using an unscented organic edible cold pressed oil.

  • Do I need to bring my own massage oil? If you are attending an online class then yes, you will need to use your own oil. But if you are attending an in-person series then no! We will provide oil for you to use in class.

How to prepare

Our classes are taught on the floor (unless physical demands require an alternate set-up). Please wear comfortable clothes!

For in-person classes we will have some baby extra's on hand but please bring diaper bag essentials. You may also desire to bring a blanket and/or pillow for extra supports.

For online classes please ensure you have some oil to use for our sessions. We recommend an unscented edible oil (organic and cold pressed if possible); Olive oil, coconut oil, canola oil - are just a few of the oils you may already have on hand.
